Call for Emerging Voices

Emerging voices

Building on last year’s success with a new “Emerging Voices” session, we will be offering the opportunity to two new speakers this year. Emerging voices provides a platform for newcomers and early career members of our community to share their stories, insights and expertise. Selected speakers will receive professional coaching for public speaking, and mentoring from RSE leaders to help prepare. They will be asked to deliver a 10 minute talk, with 5 minutes for audience questions. This initiative aims to showcase fresh perspectives, encourage early career voices, and foster diversity of thought within our community. By providing this opportunity, we hope to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders in research software engineering.

Nominations

We want the community to nominate their team members and colleagues. If you feel that someone has a voice that should be heard, a story to tell, or a compelling perspective on research software engineering, we want to know. Self nomination is ok. Nominations should be done with the consent of the nominee, and nomination doesn’t obligate anyone to speak at the conference. We will use nominations to open a dialogue and explore options.

When providing supporting information for your nomination, consider the following aspects:

  • Relevance: The nominee should be relevant to the research software engineering community
  • Novelty and Fresh Perspective: Consider the originality and freshness of the nominee’s perspective
  • Clarity and Communication Skills: Assess the nominee’s ability to communicate ideas effectively and engage the audience
  • Potential for Growth and Development: Consider the nominee’s potential for growth and development as a speaker. This could include factors such as willingness to receive coaching and mentoring, openness to feedback, and eagerness to improve public speaking skills.

If you would like to make a nomination, please complete this form.
